I’m sure most of us have tried fake tan at some point in our
lives and i'm sure most of us have had some bad tan experiences so I've listed
a few helpful ways to try avoid these
awful fake tan moments.
Prep: There are
two things you should really be doing before you even attempt to apply any fake
tan product…Moisturize the dry areas,if you don’t do this the tan is going to
sit strangely on these areas contributing to a very dodgy tan (elbows and knees
are usually a key area to consider) .Stage
2 of prep is protecting the areas you don’t want to tan.Vaseline or any
petroleum jelly product should be applied on areas you don’t want to tan…like
fingernails and toenails. The petroleum jelly will act as a barrier so even if
you accidentally get tan on these areas it wont stick and will be easy to
remove(but do try to avoid covering these areas in tan in the first place) .If
your using a spray and you don’t want to tan a large area just wear dark
clothing on that area, for example if you didn't want to tan your legs I wouldn't
suggest covering your whole leg in Vaseline!
How to Apply : Firstly i recommend wearing gloves or even an old sock on your hands. if
your using a cream or a lotion you should always be applying in a circular motion,it’s
the easiest way to ensure a consistent application.
If your using a spray/airbrush type product you should be spraying from arm’s
length and no closer but to be honest a perfect spray is always easier to
achieve if someone else is doing it for you.
Its too late, the damage
is done: We've all been there , thinking we've done everything right then a
few hours later we have the most patchy/streaky tan ever so here’s a few
things we can do to try and even it out;
·
Exfoliate- This is great for any area of your body but if you still want to keep the tan and are just removing the bits that went wrong I would stick to using a tiny bit of exfoliant on small areas. This is perfect for in between the fingers. When purchasing an exfoliator for tan removal try and get a really rough grainy type product, gentle exfoliators wont be as effective in removing tan.

· Baby Oil- Put some oil onto a cotton pad or
tissue and lightly dab it over the areas you would like to remove. Please make
sure you do use oil suitable for Beauty purposes(covering yourself in cooking oil
would just be bizarre). If your removing the whole tan you could try putting some baby oil into a hot bath and then bathing in it .
·
Toothpaste?- I've never used this method for
removing tan before but have always found it very effective when removing dye
so I guess it worth a try ?
· Bronzing powder- So you've removed the patches with
the other methods and now you just want to smooth it over and make it look as Perfect
and patch-free as possible, bronzing powder is perfect for this .It’s sold as
face make up but it works perfectly on any area of the body and its great for
filling in those accidental white patches.
Remember that a lot of tan products develop overnight and with
some products the excess washes away in the shower so don’t panic before you
need to .
Just putting it out there I am not a doctor (although Dr
Brad would sound pretty cool) so anything in this post should simply be read as
light and entertaining. I don’t recommend actioning any of my tips or
suggestions without seeking medical/professional advice first.
love this! I will be trying baby oil after the weekend.
